The 1809 Hub is the vision of Double Olympic Champion, Col. Dame Kelly Holmes MBE (mil).
In 1983 Kelly was doing paper rounds at the newsagents where The 1809 Hub now stands. Kelly went on to an army career, then became an international athlete.
Her memories of working at the shop stayed strong and Kelly knew she wanted to bring a community hub to her village. The newsagents was the perfect location. In 2013 Kelly gained ownership of the premises and project managed the build in to what the premises became first, Cafe 1809.
Cafe 1809 initially opened in November 2014 for a few trial days and officially opened to the public in December 2014.
4 years later after serving thousands of teas, coffees, cakes and mouthwateringly delicious food, in November 2018 Cafe 1809 closed it’s doors as Kelly had other ambitions and wanted to bring a new energy in to her life and the village.
Shortly after the closure, the transformation from Cafe 1809 in to The 1809 Hub began and in December 2019 The 1809 Hub hosted it’s first event.
The purpose of The 1809 Hub to this date stays true to it’s original mission, to provide a community hub to the village. The 1809 Hub is available to hire suited to a wide range of events such as birthday parties, wedding breakfasts, wedding receptions, corporate events, exhibitions, product launches, photography shoots, filming shoots and celebrations of life. The 1809 Hub also hosts occasional one off exclusive events that are organised by either The 1809 Hub Team or it’s friends and lastly to offer a number of services inline with the great work Kelly does around fitness and mental health.
The 1809 Hub is also offered free of charge to a number of charities as a space allowing them to host fundraising events.
Many ask what 1809 represents. It’s Kelly’s running number from the 2004 Athens Olympic Games where she won her two gold medals.
Below we’ve included a photo showreel that shows a snippet in to the life of the premises.
